Associate Residency Program Director and Director of Evaluation and Assessment

Dr. Caretta-Weyer is Associate Residency Program Director for the Stanford University Emergency Medicine Residency Program, Director of Evaluation and Assessment, and Entrustable Professional Activities/Competency-Based Medical Education Implementation Lead for the Stanford University School of Medicine. She is an emeritus member of the Association of American Medical Colleges Core Entrustable Professional Activities for Entering Residency pilot team and a member of the International Competency-Based Medical Education Collaborators. Dr. Caretta-Weyer is the principle investigator on an American Medical Association Reimagining Residency Grant focused on redesigning assessment and implementing Competency-based Medical Education across the continuum of emergency medicine training in the US. She was also American Board of Medical Specialties Visiting Scholar, examining the use of programmatic assessment data by competency committees for summative entrustment and initial certification.
Dr. Caretta-Weyer completed her Master of Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago examining the learner handover from undergraduate to graduate medical education from the perspective of residency program directors. Her research interests focus on the key transitions in the continuum of medical training, summative entrustment and promotion decision-making, and residency selection in a competency-based system, the latter of which she is pursuing as her topic of study for her Doctor of Philosophy from Maastricht University.
Dr. Caretta-Weyer is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
