Member Boards Connect 2023 is a special educational and networking event designed specifically by and for ABMS Member Board staff. Volunteers and board leadership are also invited to participate, as well as ABMS staff.
**To participate in the afternoon’s events, choose any of the three breakout sessions. This will enroll you in the full day’s educational sessions as well. Be sure to also select the reception from 5:00 to 6:00 pm (CT), exclusively for ABMS and Member Board staff!**
There is no additional fee to attend Member Boards Connect 2023, which is offered in person only. However, to participate you must also register to attend ABMS Conference 2023 either in-person or virtually.

1:30 – 3:30 pm (CT): Welcome, Introduction, and Panel Discussion Operationalizing Continuing Certification Standards at the Staff Level
Member Boards Connect 2023 begins with a panel presentation followed by a facilitated discussion on how ABMS Member Boards are preparing to implement the ABMS Standards for Continuing Certification. Attendees will better understand: • Overview of the ABMS Standards for Continuing Certification • Baseline self-assessment data • Three board examples on their lessons learned, standards implementation, and what insights and challenges they have identified

From DEI audit to implementation • The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) recently worked with a consultant on a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) audit. David Elstein, Manager, Education and Communication, will explain why the ABOS chose to work with a consultant, what the audit showed, and how the board is addressing the audit report.
Using assessments as a catalyst for change to promote awareness of DEI and to minimize health care disparities • The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) incorporated DEI and health care disparities topics in its certification exam content outlines and developed questions in these areas. Chrissy Dideriksen, Applied Exam Editor, and Anna Menzies, Director of Assessment Development & Delivery, will provide preliminary information on item performance and discus steps taken to improve awareness of bias in administration and scoring of oral exams
