Longitudinal Assessment: Positive Feedback Among Diplomates, Across Programs

Description: Interest in longitudinal assessment is growing throughout the health care environment, as it supports the need for continuous and up-to-date learning. Formative and summative assessments can be achieved using these tools. Longitudinal assessment was first introduced to the American Board of Medical Specialties Member Board community in 2014. Since then, it has been adopted widely across the 24 Member Boards, utilizing a wide variety of platforms, item formats, and content.

As part of the longitudinal assessment rollout, many Member Boards included a survey component. Feedback is a critical aspect to assessment in general, desired by the diplomates, and provides key information to support continuous improvement. The diplomate feedback received ranged from content-specific comments to thoughts on the overall experience.

This session will share the feedback received by multiple Member Boards across different medical specialties that indicated longitudinal assessment is providing tremendous benefit across multiple platform delivery systems and evidence that learning has occurred. This data provides Member Boards an opportunity to adjust content, if necessary.

The data indicates diplomates believe longitudinal assessment has helped them provide better care to their patients.
