Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Measurement and Assessment Practices

Description: A diverse, equitable, and inclusive (DEI) workforce can potentially lead to better health outcomes for traditionally underserved minority populations. How can we, medical education and measurement professionals, embed DEI practices in measurement and assessment to admit, support, and evaluate talented individuals through their medical education learning journey? Resulting from a collaborative effort among four organizations--National Board of Medical Examiners, Association of American Medical Colleges, American Board of Medical Specialties and American Board of Internal Medicine--we will share perspectives and practices from their assessment programs through a DEI lens. These organizations play an important role in the preparation of the health care workforce and cover the entire continuum of the medical training journey, from admission assessment to medical licensing, to medical specialty certification, and continued education. Through this session, the presenters hope to share concrete steps and processes embedded in the development and implementation of their assessment programs and to engage the audience in an interactive, meaningful, and actionable dialogue about some controversial issues related to considering DEI practices in assessment programs.
